  4. The premise of Baldies is similar to many real-time strategy games. You start with a limited number of Baldies with which you construct buildings, increase your population, and create the necessary instruments of war. There are four classes of Baldies-builders, scientists, soldiers, and workers/breeders.

RTS with...bold Eagles!

The Baldies is a race of warriors that always find themselves at war with their neighbors. Their backstory isn't really taken and constructed much outside this, however, all things considered, the game offers you a pretty well done, and pretty satisfying RTS premise. And, the RTS itself, mostly based on skirmishes, without a lot of other additions, gives you enough maps and enough different material to keep you interested for long hours. And so, all in all, Baldies does a beautiful job of it all, it is a satisfying game. The build of the RTS engine is pretty much based on similar types of units; that is to say that Baldies keeps you pretty on your toes. Thus, the best strategy is the one that is based on ideas of balance; thus, your close quarters units have to be kept away from your archers, and thus, it's that rock paper scissors build that keeps the entire game in check. So, overall, Baldies is a great strategy game, a pretty intricate and really well satisfying one. Have it in your collection, or, even better, download it with the mighty Hogs of War, with which it shares a certain love of directness and simplicity.

Description of Baldies

Baldies is a fun action/puzzle game featuring follically-challenged 'Baldies.' Baldies offers an extended gameplay experience that fuses the elements of Dune 2, Populous, and Lemmings, with over 80 levels, 15 special weapons, and five 3D worlds.

Each world has its own special graphics and environmental theme, including ice, grass, desert, and volcano . Hidden areas make the worlds more interesting. Each level starts with some strucutures and a few of the bald ones. Baldies reproduce into more baldies and they can be divided by the player into proportions of four categories: scientists, workers, builders and soldiers. Like most strategy games following in Dune 2's sand prints (pardon the pun), the baldies build structures, mine resources, research upgrades, and fight battles. Like Populous, the little baldies congregate around the shield icon which is placed upon the map.

Unlike Populous, the shield icon has a very small sphere of influence requiring much time and patience to move numbers of baldies to the shield location. Another problem is the inability to control individual soldiers which has not been balanced, like populous, to work with the system. Characters can be picked up and moved one at a time, but even when moved to the enemy stronghold they refuse to attack structures or enemy characters. The Baldies simply wander around being cute. This is the most frustrating part of the game--- times when you think the level will never finish.

Baldies Games

Still, the high 'cute' factor and many imaginative levels (and technologies you can research) makes Baldies one of the best Lemmings clones on the market. Thumbs up!

I used to have a PS1 copy of this game, Played it on the PS2.
Seriously loved this game, I emulated it on PS1 emulator then came to the realisation that this was a port of an original PC game, hahah I can imagine it being so much easier with mouse than a digital 8 directional Dpad!
such a classic game.

used to play it in childhood2021-02-270 point Windows version

I had a CD with about 100 games (including Hocus Pocus) and it had jazzy music on the menu (I think the entertainer and one other)
Have anyone else had this game CD collection?

Hi, I had this game in its original run and would like to point some inaccuracies: first of all, there is an option to efficiently move your bald followers by giving them wings temporarily and pointing them toward a specific place. This does cost resources though and as far as I remember requires development of your buildings (but I am not sure on that detail).
As for attacking structures or enemy units, your people will always wander randomly, but the soldiers (brown uniforms) will actually attack on their own, when they find an enemy or happend to stumble upon a building entrance. With enough military resource they will also shoot enemies from a distance and throw some grenades before entering a buliding.
Still, one of the biggest appeals of the game is the inherent stupidity of the little folks and the wicked and often unusual traps you can make then fall onto. Pressurised gas tanks that make people literally blow up? Rain of stones (actually mostly used to stunt building upgrades)? Skunks thrown into buildings to force everyone out (preferably toward a gigantic mine blowing up the whole structure)? I still have no idea, if the rain of fishes had any useful function.
